Papabubble in Yokohama
Papabubble is a candy shop where sweets are made by hand in front of customers. When the design team was asked to renovate it, the client needed a partition between the kitchen and the sales space.
The design follows the movements of the candy makers as they work, and the movement of the products themselves. It is built on the relationship between concrete and its formwork at different stages. Concrete and timber formwork are set in various configurations, with glass and tiles inserted at random, to make places that receive visitors, staff and products alike.
The making stays visible through glass while the kitchen is kept apart, and the raw concrete and timber give the small shop the character of a workshop.
