CHISO Flagship Store
The client is a kimono house with a history reaching back to 1555, whose artisans built up knowledge that still shapes the techniques of dyeing and weaving in use today. This is its first flagship store.
The design team set out to show the company’s long history of fine kimono. The store has two floors. On the ground floor, a bright double-height room welcomes visitors and holds a kimono showroom facing a garden; the kimono are displayed theatrically, floating in the garden light, in a setting that feels timeless.
The upper floor is a gallery for the company’s philosophy and culture. Throughout, traditional sources are turned into contemporary expression, offering visitors a calm way into the world of the house.
