CR Apartment

The apartment draws on familiar things from the country’s folk culture and brings them into a home through surfaces, furniture and colourful details. Set within a contemporary way of living, these traces of tradition make the rooms warm and intimate while giving them a character of their own.

Warm brown timber leads the palette, joined by textured wall finishes, woven rattan and handmade glazed tiles. Instead of the neutral tones common in contemporary interiors, the design team chose deeper colours, vermilion red, earth brown and dark green, recalling the colours of traditional architecture, crafts and everyday life. Plain materials and strong patches of colour come together in a whole that is warm and expressive yet controlled.

The owners wanted a home that gathers the family together, so half the floor area is given to shared living. The living room, dining area and kitchen run together in one open, daylit space. Around the entrance and kitchen, a folk painting of a mouse wedding on a red ground becomes the main focal point and brings a lively cultural story into the room.

The furniture was designed and finished with care, working in familiar motifs such as bamboo stems, fish, lotus flowers and traditional turned spindles. These are not only decoration: together they form a design language of their own, in which craft and cultural memory take new, everyday forms.

The aim is not nostalgia. The apartment keeps the familiar feeling of the culture within a new way of living, adapted to present-day tastes, needs and habits.
