Dining space under the original glass roof

Paris, France

Restaurant Maison

The design team converted an old wine storage building into a restaurant called Maison, the word for home, which became its central theme. A large dining table gathers guests around the open kitchen, lit by daylight through the original glass roof.

Terracotta became the concept. The dramatic interior is clad floor to ceiling in reclaimed terracotta, a material with a long place in the history of domestic interiors in the region. Some 22,000 pieces were gathered from several parts of the country. The hexagonal tiles were all made by hand and fired, much like the meals, so each piece carries its own expression and history.

Together they give the restaurant a character not found elsewhere in the city. The chef, known for a lively take on contemporary cooking, invites guests to relax as they would at home.
